American Heart Association and the Helmsley Charitable Trust Announce $6.5 Million Commitment To Expand and Enhance Stroke Care In Nebraska

Mission Lifeline Stroke specifically focuses onconnecting all the components of acute stroke care into a smoothly integrated system that reinforces the use of evidence-based guidelines to timely and effectively treat stroke patients.

Nebraskans have more than 3,400 strokes annually accounting for nearly 800 deaths. Approximately 37,000 Nebraskans (3%) are living with stroke-related disabilities.

Each minute of onset -to-treatment time saved grants an average of 1.8 days of extra healthy life....

The online training program 24/7 Fire EMS is now up and running again! All information of completed classes will have been saved and access to all classes is open. For existing users, please use the Username Recover option if you forgot your username and the Password Recover option if your password needs reset. September 22, the first day of fall, marks Falls Prevention Awareness Day. This annual celebration is an opportunity to commit to overall health, empower older adults, and take six steps to stay safe from falls.

A Safe Walk to School
It is that time of the year again. Those yellow No. 2 pencils are freshly sharpened, folders with the edges still crisp and tidyare placed in newly purchased backpacks; the kids are going back to school. Many of these children will be walking to school. Did you know thatunintentional pedestrian injuriesare the fifth leading cause of injury related death for children ages 5 to 19 in the U.S.? Today,teens face a higher risk of injury and account for half of all child pedestrian deaths.Here are a fewtipson how you can keep kids safe as they begrudgingly walkto school.

As we begin the school year, one of the most popular modes of transportation for students is the school bus. Not only is the schoolbusa popular mode of transportation, it is also the safest way to get kids to and from school. Many people consider golf a low-level physical activity without much risk for injury. However many injuries can be caused by playing golf, including injuries to the ankle, elbow, spine, knee, hip, and wrist. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 131,000 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms, doctors’ offices, and clinics for golf-related injuries in 2015.
There are basically two types of injuries: acute injuries and overuse injuries. Acute injuries are usually the result of a single, traumatic event. Common examples include wrist fractures, ankle sprains, and shoulder dislocations. While overuse injuries are more common in sports than acute injuries, they are subtle and usually occur over time, making them challenging to diagnose and treat. They are a result of repetitive micro-trauma to the tendons, bones, and joints. Common examples include golfer’s elbow and shin splints.
The best way to prevent overuse injuries during sports is to warm up and strengthen muscles. Specifically for Golfer’s Elbow which is an inflammation of the tendons that attach your forearm muscles to the inside of the bone at your elbow. Completing exercises like squeezing a tennis ball for 5 minutes at a time is a simple and effective exercise that will strengthen your forearm muscles.
